To plan for the capital development to meet this increase in traffic, NIA Management hired an international consultant which made the thorough study and prepared a comprehensive master plan to extend the airport in three stages (short, medium and long terms). The first stage included the addition of a new runway, taxiways, and the supporting facilities.
The runway production design was carried out by CAAC Shanghai New Era Airport Design & Research Institute Co.,Ltd for the Contractor. Fjori provided detailed design review services for all aspects including runway planning, pavement engineering, earthworks, drainage modelling and engineering, AGL, navaids, and ICAO compliance.
